The Sleep Profile 1009 analyses levels of melatonin and cortisol through a non-invasive saliva test to identify if an imbalance is present.
An imbalance of melatonin and cortisol in the body can lead to sleep disturbances including insomnia.
Patients experiencing difficulty with sleep initiation, maintenance, duration and/or sleep quality may benefit from this test.
The Sleep Profile 1009 analyses salvia to determine if there is an imbalance in the two major hormones that cause insomnia; cortisol and melatonin.
Melatonin regulates the body’s natural sleep patterns. When there is a deficiency of this hormone sleep patterns become disturbed, potentially leading to insomnia.
Cortisol is known as the stress hormone and helps coordinate your sleep cycles. When there are high levels of cortisol (stress) the body’s ability to get regular, quality sleep is negatively affected.
To complete this test a non-invasive simple saliva test is taken between 12-2am, preferably in the dark. This pathology test is also beneficial for patients with mental health disorders, cardiovascular disease, or those working an overnight shift-based work schedule.
If a deficiency or imbalance is discovered, our team can assist patients to effectively treat the insufficiency with guidance on how to improve sleep habits, the body’s stress response and potential melatonin supplementation.
